Chem-Dry Versus Steam Cleaning
Not all carpet, rug and upholstery cleaning is created equal
When you’re comparing carpet cleaners on the Sunshine Coast, a few key differences separate a genuinely healthier clean from one that just drenches your carpets in gallons of water and harsh chemicals.
Here’s why our Hot Carbonating Extraction process gives you a deeper, faster-drying, healthier clean than typical steam cleaning.
Chem-Dry offers a safer, more convenient cleaning solution
Traditional steam cleaning saturates your carpet with a heavy dose of water, soap and detergent. That leaves your carpets wet for anywhere from one to four days — plenty of time for mould, mildew and bacteria to take hold, especially in our humid Sunshine Coast climate. Worse, the soapy residue left behind actually attracts more dirt, so your carpets get grubby again faster.
Our process works differently. Instead of soaking your carpets, we use millions of microscopic carbonated bubbles to lift dirt out from deep in the carpet fibres — which means we only need around 80% less water than a typical steam clean. Once the carbonation has done its work, our high-powered equipment extracts the dirt and moisture straight back out.
The result: no soaked-through carpet backing, no breeding ground for mould and mildew, and a safer, more convenient clean for Sunshine Coast homes. Your carpets are dry in just a few hours rather than a few days, and without the sticky soap residue, they stay cleaner for longer too.

* Based on studies conducted by independent laboratories of Chem-Dry’s HCE (Hot Carbonating Extraction), P.U.R.T.® (Pet Urine Removal Treatment), Granite Countertop Renewal, and Tile, Stone & Grout cleaning processes. Allergens tested were dog and cat dander and dust mite allergen. Pet odour results based on testing with the most common odour sources found in dog and cat urine. Pet urine bacteria results based on Chem-Dry’s HCE cleaning process and a sanitiser, combined with P.U.R.T. All bacteria results include use of sanitiser. Figures are an average across multiple tests.
